A beautiful handspinner's set comprising a handmade resin drop spindle and two co-ordinating drumcarded batts of wool/luxury fibre - total fibre weight is 100g. The batts have been carded on my drumcarder several times for a thoroughly blended mix. The fibres include hand-dyed wool (includes merino) a generous proportion of silk and small lots of various other wool and luxurious non-wool fibres (for streaks of colour), plus some synthetic angelina fibres for sparkle.
These smoothly blended batts are lofty and a dream to draft from, they're super for long-draw spinning, but work well with a worsted draw too. We haven't used any superwash fibre in these, so they should be suitable for wet felting. They are also suitable for needle felting. While we haven't intentionally included mohair, we can't guarantee that the fibre is totally mohair-free, as some of the oddments included for colour may have contained mohair fibre.
The hand turned resin top-whorl spindle has a beautiful disk-shaped whorl in marbled blue, green, purple and pearly resin. The whorl is in our new lathe-turned style, which is perfectly balanced. The spindle has a birch wood shaft. The whorl is notched to the back of the hook.
The total weight of the spindle is 26g, making it perfect for spinning light to medium weight yarns.
The spindle's handmade hook is in a swan-neck style, made from silver-plated wire, which balances the yarn properly above the centre of the spindle. Has been test spun to ensure it has good balance.
The spindle is supplied with a robust custom-made shipping container, which also acts as a handy carrying case for later.
The resin used for the whorl contains a UV protectant, however for longest life without yellowing, we recommend that you store your spindle away from direct sunlight.
