Lightwater Juggernaut (Giles) |
|

Lightwater Juggernaut, aka 'Giles' is the sheep who converted me to the Ryeland breed. I bought him in 2008 from Sue Trimmings in Northumberland who keeps a prizewinning flock of pedigree Coloured Ryelands. I'd bought Giles to cross with my Texel ewes in the hope of producing some lambs with interesting coloured fleeces, but Giles' super temperament and ease of handling very soon convinced me that I wanted my own flock of Coloured Ryelands. Giles' first crop of lambs were all crossbreds (including Spot, and Ethel), and they have all have inherited his friendly demeanour.

Giles' first purebred Ryeland lambs were born the following year, in 2010,and not only are they easy to handle and as charming as Giles himself, but many of them have inherited his chunky stature and square, classically Ryeland confirmation. Giles' 2010 lambs include Mick, Murphy, Small and Maggie (all purebred), as well as some great crossbred lambs. His outcrossed lambs have all grown on very well, proving that not only is Giles a great asset to my pedigree flock, but also an excellent terminal sire.
